Ulyana Sergeenko

Meet Ulyana Sergeenko.
Though she might not yet be internationally famous, this Russian designer is firmly making her way to the top. Part of the so called ‘Russian fashion pack’ (referred to Miroslava Duma, Vika Gazinskaya, Elena Perminova, Anya Ziourova), 32 year old Ulyana has been named Russian trendsetter of the year by the Russian edition of Glamour. She was also recently named by Vanity Fair on the international list of best dressed women.

Former model, aspiring photographer and now designer, her haute couture debut in Paris last July was the talk of the fashion world. Being the wife of a Russian insurance billionaire sure helps, but you can not buy style. Her style is a combination of 19th century Russia with a vintage fifties vibe. Natalia Vodianova and Lady Gaga are among Ulyana Sergeenko’s clients.

Part of Paris Fashion Week, Ulyana Sergeenko unveiled her Fall 2012 couture collection, with the presence of major industry players like Grace Coddington, Carine Roitfeld, Tim Blanks, Anna Dello Russo and Patrick Demarchelier. Not bad for a little over a year old fashion label. Her fall collection included her signature voluminous printed maxi skirts worn over a knit sweater, Russian references that were felt through her accessories, which included military hats, lace helmet, medals of honour, military boots, big furry hats.

Natalia Vodianova closed the show in a floor-sweeping black coat styled with a floral embroidered tulle veil.

This Russian tsarina is feminine, retro, posh and has just began to surprise us...

Yours truly,
Olga Markiza
